Filtrona

Release Date: 13 March 2009

Listed on the London Stock Exchange, Filtrona is a global supply chain manufacturer for specialised plastic and fibre products, many of which are fundamental to the production of our everyday FMCG goods.

Their acquisition strategy has meant great diversification across the organisation, with new roles continually being created in new sectors. Historically they had operated their own Graduate scheme, but latterly in the UK, they outsourced recruitment to a local agency, but were not getting the volume or the calibre the business needed.

As ex-Graduates themselves, the hiring managers at Filtrona were keen to tap into this talent pool once again as part of the succession planning strategy.

ATTRACTION

As a hidden part of the FMCG supply chain, Filtrona had no ‘employer brand’ to build on, and were struggling to compete for the best talent, against leading global brands. Discovery has worked continually with the business units to define all the roles and communicate the opportunities for scientists and engineers, as well as in operational management, finance and sales functions.

The entire attraction strategy is designed and rolled out by Discovery, through a sustained campaign of online activity, advertising, live case studies, targeted mailshots and engaging directly with the right Graduates via careers services, to generate a high enough volume of good applications.

RECRUITMENT
With record numbers of quality applications for each of Filtrona’s business units, Discovery then manages the entire CV and telephone screening process rapidly to avoid candidate attrition and to free-up Filtrona’s in-house teams. Discovery organises and delivers bespoke assessment centres, coupled with SHL profiling, so the Filtrona management team can focus on assessing, rather than the logistics of the day. Within 24 hours, we make offers on Filtrona’s behalf to secure the best Graduates.

Discovery consistently maintain an interview to offer hit rate of less than 3:1.

2008 also saw Discovery Graduates successfully deliver upon Filtrona’s requirements in the USA.
