Discovery hits the airwaves

Release Date: 26 July 2007

Discovery shared its views this month with listeners of the late night BBC WM radio show, hosted by Danny Kelly.

Discussions arose due to the recent release of The AGR Graduate Recruitment Survey 2007 (Summer Review) which highlights key issues, concerns and predictions for the graduate recruitment industry based on information provided by over 360 AGR employers.

Director of Client Services, Sarah Evans, represented Discovery as part of the radio debate that explored the growing ratio of applications to graduate vacancies. Evans supported the idea that there are many graduate vacancies in the market that are simply not being recognised by graduate job seekers. She highlighted that ‘a graduate job can simply be a job that a graduate does. The competitive marketplace of today means those graduates who make smart decisions about the companies they target and look beyond the traditional vacancy titles of ‘Graduate Management Scheme’ will get the experience they need to further their career.

The advice therefore is for graduates to be more dynamic in their job hunting by researching the hidden pool of graduate recruiters. Graduates will therefore increase their chances of standing out from the growing crowds.

Additional key issues raised in the report also include the year on year increase in graduate recruitment; 2007 sees a real rise of 5.2% against the figures from 2006. Graduate starting salaries are also set to rise, the mean salary now stands at £23,500.

The AGR report is a leading study of graduate recruitment in the UK representing the primary source of information on graduate recruitment levels, methods and practices. As an AGR member, Discovery Recruitment contributes it own information to the survey. Further details about the AGR can be found at www.agr.org.uk.
